Unison! Media Release

On Monday, May 2, 2011, and through the support of the LKDSB and the Sarnia Rotary, hundreds of LKDSB music students will be uniting at the RBC Centre in Sarnia, ON, to celebrate Music Monday (http://musicmakesus.ca/musicmonday) - the date nationally recognized to celebrate and advocate for the necessity of music education in the lives of our youth. The event will feature students from Blenheim District High School, Chatham-Kent Secondary School, Lambton Central Collegiate and Vocational Institute, North Lambton Secondary School, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School and St. Clair Secondary School. We are also anticipating several elementary students to be a part of the evening as well.

Throughout the day, students will be involved in collaborative activities, break-out sessions, rehearsals/sound-checks and inclusion activities to fully capture and foster the spirit of celebration, unity, and camaraderie. The second annual UNISON! concert will begin at 7pm and will be hosted by Emm Gryner (Canadian singer/songwriter and North Lambton Secondary School graduate), and will feature the Lambton Concert Band. The finale of the evening will fill the RBC Centre with true celebration by having every student involved participating in a mass performance of Luke Doucet's "Tomorrow is Coming" (the Music Monday song).

Last year, we had roughly 500 in attendance for the inaugural concert and roughly the same number of secondary school music students, but anticipate to significantly increase that number this year after last year's resounding success. The funds collected, in conjunction with the support from the LKDSB and the Sarnia Rotary, are used to cover the cost associated with putting on the event.

Music Directors from each school will lead their individual ensembles before uniting in conducting the students for the final massed number.

Tickets can be purchased from the individual schools, the RBC box office (519.541.1717), online at unisonlambton.blogspot.com, or at the door. Adults are $10, students/seniors are $8 and children under 5 are free.
